During 2020 in between lockdowns and limited access to the Museum we took on a challenging yet satisfying project to relocate and complete the construction of a new retail store at the war memorial museum.
Having a retail store within the building is a unique part of the experience giving visitors the opportunity to purchase specific items with a NZ theme in their design and manufacture.
The store has a selection of original features within it including the use of recycled Rimu flooring, solid Rimu timber used within the point of sale counter and some specific hand carved panels that frame the west facing windows within the perimeter wall.
Using the solid native timber was a change for our cabinet making team and for some a reflection back when timber like this was readily available and used for all types of furniture and fittings.
The finished store and its features are very special and sitting within a superb new location that has seen retail sales grow substantially for the retail team.
Working in partnership with the museum team, Ignite Architects and Aspec construction was a great experience and the finished product is not your normal retail environment.
Be sure to pay a visit to the museum and check out the new space.
